Death of inmate at Hartford prison under investigation
A Hartford man has died at the Hartford Correctional Center, officials said. His death is being investigated by the Connecticut Department of Correction.
On Thursday morning, 20-year-old Jayshawn Johnson was receiving medical attention before the prison’s medical team determined he needed care they could not provide.
Johnson was taken to a nearby hospital but passed away shortly after arrival, according to officials, and he was conscious and alert while leaving the prison.
The Connecticut State Police and the Office of the Inspector General are investigating the death.
Johnson entered custody on Wednesday, officials said.
The exact cause of death will be determined by the state medical examiner’s office.
