A Connecticut man and an Ohio woman drowned in a rip current off a Florida beach on Tuesday afternoon, firefighters said.
The Cocoa Beach Fire Department responded around 1 p.m. to 4th Street South for a reported water rescue involving multiple people, according to firefighters.
When crews arrived, they found four people in the water and began lifesaving measures for the 42-year-old man from Connecticut and the 34-year-old woman from Ohio. They were both transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, firefighters said.
Firefighters did not share the names either person who drowned.
“Preliminary information indicates the incident was related to a rip current,” firefighters wrote in a press release.
No further details were immediately provided.
