The new luxury waterfront development in Bridgeport is set to open its doors in June.
The August at Steelepointe Harbor will include 420 luxury apartments with a wide range of on-site amenities, including a large gym, a sauna, a dog park, an outdoor hot tub, a saltwater pool, a pickleball court, and Frenchie’s Coffee Shop, all on site.
Ryan Cronk, principal for Flaherty & Collins Properties, said part of the reason he and his partners selected Bridgeport for the new project was due to the proximity to public transportation.
“The access off the interstate is great, we’re right next door to the train, right next door to the ferry, so you have all this mobile type of transportation that you have access to,” Cronk said.
The August offers studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom apartment units.
The rent for a market-studio apartment starts at $2,580, and three-bedroom units are being rented for upwards of $9,000 per month.
In comparison, an apartment in the Build for Connecticut program offers a studio starting at $1,965, a 1-bedroom at $2,672, and a 2-bedroom at $3,230, according to The August website.
Cronk said they worked closely with the state’s Build for Connecticut Program to provide 160 income-based apartments.
“Definitely have locals in Bridgeport that have signed leases all the way up, people from Fairfield, a couple from New York, Guilford, so it’s been interesting to see people coming from everywhere, a lot from New Haven, even, they want to come down and lease here,” said Cronk.
Cronk added that so far they have leased 40 units, and the move-in day is scheduled for June 17.
“We got a lot of people that drive by, they want to know what’s going on, and I think people will be blown away when they see the level of quality this project is going to be bringing to Bridgeport,” Cronk said.
Meanwhile, Kevin Neil, co-owner of Frenchie’s Coffee Shop in Stratford, said he and his family are excited to expand their business to Bridgeport.
The family has had their Stratford brick-and-mortar location for over three years, along with two beach concession stands.
“We’re very excited to be a part of that revitalization. We think we can make an impact and hire some people in Bridgeport and introduce them to the world of coffee,” said Neil.
The Stratford-based coffee shop is run by Kevin Neil, his daughter Tiana Golding, and his wife, Patrice Wilson-Neil. Their focus is specialty coffee and freshly made food.
The family adds they are looking forward to connecting with the Bridgeport community by bringing their signature coffee drinks and dog-friendly environment.
“Here it’s more of a collaborative environment where we have remote workers and all of that stuff, but it’s nice to have a space for dogs and then a space for people with families without dogs, so it’s kind of like elevating that part of our brand, which I’m really excited about,” Golding said.
Frenchie’s Coffee Bar is the first small business to secure commercial space in The August.
