Amazon Prime settlement deadline approaching: Here's how to file a claim

Amazon Prime settlement deadline approaching: Here's how to file a claim

Some Amazon Prime customers are eligible to receive compensation as part of a $2.5 billion antitrust settlement, but the deadline is quickly approaching.

Last September, Amazon settled with the Federal Trade Commission to pay customers after allegedly coercing them into enrolling in Prime subscriptions and making it difficult to cancel.

Some users may have already gotten paid in the first phase last year through automatic payments. In order to receive the second payout, you must file a claim before the upcoming deadline.

While Amazon has continued to deny wrongdoing, it opted to settle and is working to “make it clear and simple for customers” to cancel their membership.

Here’s everything to know about the settlement and deadline to file a claim.

Why is there an antitrust lawsuit against Amazon?

The basics of the lawsuit are that Amazon got customers to sign up for Prime and did not make it easy to cancel. The lawsuit, filed in 2023, claimed that Amazon:

  • Obtained consumers’ billing information before clearly and conspicuously disclosing material terms for Amazon Prime.
  • Failed to obtain consumers’ express informed consent for Amazon Prime.
  • Failed to provide simple mechanisms for consumers to cancel Amazon Prime.

Amazon did not admit liability but agreed to settle with the FTC.

Who is eligible for the Amazon Prime settlement?

There are four conditions to see if you are eligible for compensation. In order to be paid, you must check all four boxes.

  1. You are a U.S. consumer who signed up for Prime.
  2. You unintentionally enrolled in a Prime membership through a challenged enrollment method at issue in the FTC’s lawsuit from June 23, 2019 – June 23, 2025; or you tried to cancel your Prime membership through the online cancellation process from June 23, 2019 – June 23, 2025, but were unable to do so.
  3. You used less than 10 Prime benefits (e.g., delivery, shopping, streaming, reading, and other benefits provided to Prime members) during any 12-month period of enrollment in Prime.
  4. You did not receive an automatic payment as part of the settlement already.

Amazon Prime refunds are going out after a $2.5 billion settlement with the FTC

How do I file a claim for the Amazon Prime settlement?

Amazon Prime customers who are eligible for the settlement can file a claim online here.

Click “file claim” and you will be prompted to include a claim ID and PIN. If you don’t have those numbers, you can opt to file a claim with your name, address and details about your Amazon account.

When is the deadline to file a claim in the Amazon Prime settlement?

The deadline to submit a claim is Monday, July 27, 2026.

How much money could you get from the Amazon Prime settlement?

Customers whose claim is approved will receive up to $51 as part of the settlement.

The payout could be less than that, depending on how long your membership was active during the provided time period. Amazon has 30 days to review each claim once it is received, and payments will go out by September.
