Alysa Liu is bringing home another gold medal from the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The American standout topped the podium in the women’s figure skating event on Thursday, finishing with a combined score of 226.79 to secure first place.
Liu has now secured the United States’ first gold medal in women’s singles since 2002, when Sarah Hughes won in Salt Lake City. It’s a full‑circle moment for the 20‑year‑old, who finished sixth in this event at age 16 in Beijing and retired shortly after those Games. She returned to competition during the 2024–25 season after a roughly two‑year break and went on to win the world title last March.
She also claimed gold earlier in these Olympics in the team event, completing a standout showing in Milan.
Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto (224.90) and Ami Nakai (219.16) earned silver and bronze, respectively.
Team USA’s Isabeau Levito delivered a strong performance to finish 12th overall, while Amber Glenn placed just off the podium in fifth after leading the free skate.
