An Enfield man was arrested on June 18 following an incident in which he fired multiple gunshots at a vehicle on Route 9 that had an 8-year-old and 3-year old in the backseat, according to Connecticut State Police.
State police responded to a call on the evening of June 6 about an active shooting on Route 9 South near Exit 38 in New Britain.
The caller was one of the victims, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of his vehicle. He was riding in the vehicle with his wife who was in the driver’s seat and his two children — an 8-year-old boy who sat in the rear left passenger seat and a 3-year girl old who sat in the rear right seat.
The affidavit says that the suspect drove a black BMW with two passengers with him.
The suspect drove along the left side of the victim’s vehicle and fired two rounds from a handgun. Troopers later found what appeared to be two entry bullet holes on the lower left rear door of the victim’s car.
The suspect followed the victim’s vehicle for approximately one mile before the victim’s wife took Exit 37B, at which point the suspect stopped following them, according to the victim’s statement in the affidavit.
According to the affidavit, the victim who called the police and the arrested suspect knew each other.
The victim stated that he had another encounter with the suspect in May, but did not get a police report because he wanted to remain anonymous. The victim also said his friend encountered the suspect on another occasion, and the suspect pulled out a gun before realizing he wasn’t the victim. The victim’s friend then made a report to the New Britain Police Department.
The suspect was charged with criminal attempt to commit assault, reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a minor, unlawful discharge of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and criminal possession of a firearm. He was unable to post his $500,000 bond and was transferred to Hartford Correctional Facility under a temporary surrender. His next court date is Monday, July 6, according to the state’s judicial website.
