A 5-year-old girl died after falling from a playground, according to officials.

State police were called to a Harwinton home on the report of a fall from the playscape, according to officials on Sunday. The girl was taken to Connecticut Children’s Hospital in Hartford via Lifestar. Police said her injuries were initially reported as serious but non-life-threatening.

State police officials said they learned early on Monday that the young girl succumbed to her injuries. Police said nothing criminal regarding the incident was found.

Region 10 Superintendent Dr. Fran Thompson issued a message to the school community about the loss, saying that resources will be available for family, friends, and staff.

First Selectman Michael Criss also issued a statement, saying there were “no words that can adequately express the sorrow felt by our community.” He extended condolences to the girl’s family.
