Meriden police said a 4-year-old is recovering after they were struck by a family vehicle on Thursday.
Officers were called to the CVS on Broad Street around 5:15 p.m. on the report that a bleeding child was put in a vehicle and the vehicle had sped off from the parking lot.
When officers got to the parking lot, they learned that a 4-year-old was being treated at Mid State Medical Center for a traumatic head injury. Officials said that when investigators arrived at the hospital, they learned the child had been taken to Connecticut Children’s Hospital in Hartford.
Investigators managed to find the mother of the 4-year-old and learned that she was behind the wheel of the family vehicle and didn’t know the child was not inside. She started to drive, and the child was injured. Police said video evidence corroborated what was told to them.
Officials said the family is cooperating with police, and the child is in stable condition.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information is asked to call Meriden police at 203-630-6201.
