Multiple businesses in a Harwinton plaza are closed for the foreseeable future after an overnight fire damaged them, firefighters said.
Firefighters were called to a shopping plaza on 157 Litchfield Road, commonly known as Route 118, around 2 a.m. on Wednesday after a state trooper saw smoke coming from the building, according to firefighters.
Daily Mart, Hometown Pizza, and 5 Scoops Sweet Shoppe are all located in the plaza.
When firefighters arrived, there was a working fire at Daily Mart, and it was heavily damaged. Hometown Pizza and 5 Scoops Sweet Shoppe had heavy smoke in them, firefighters said.
“All businesses will be closed for the foreseeable future,” the Harwinton Fire Department said in a Facebook post.
Crews used a fire hydrant on the corner of Route 118 and Whetstone Road to help put the fire out, so they didn’t need tankers, according to the post.
Harwinton had mutual aid from the Burlington, Terryville, South End, and Torrington Fire Departments.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the fire marshal.
