82-year-old man on e-bike hit by van and seriously injured in Groton
An 82-year-old man on an e-bike was hit by a van and seriously injured in Groton on Tuesday afternoon.
It happened on Allyn Street in the area of Whitehall Lane just before 4:30 p.m., according to police.
Officers found the victim unconscious in the roadway.
According to police, the victim was riding the e-bike as the van was driving in the same direction. Witnesses told police that the e-bike veered into traffic and struck the side of the van, according to investigators.
The man was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London and then was moved to Yale New Haven Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
The driver of the van remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
