Jennifer Hudson will return to “Dreamgirls,” this time as a producer, for Broadway’s fall revival of the Tony- and Oscar-winning musical.

The “American Idol” alum — who won the 2007 Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of Effie White in Bill Condon’s star-studded screen adaptation — said in a statement to Variety that she’s “beyond honored” to produce alongside Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner and John Johnson.

The production will premiere 20 years after Condon’s 2006 hit and nearly 40 years since the last Broadway revival in 1987.

“Twenty years ago, my life changed forever because of a film called ‘Dreamgirls,’” Hudson said. “Inspired by the iconic stage musical, I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to portray the one and only Effie White — a woman whose story and voice remain an ever-present force in my life.”

Hudson, who previously produced Broadway’s “A Strange Loop” and “Smash,” said she’s excited for the “newly reimagined Broadway revival, and to help bring ‘Dreamgirls’ back to the stage through the visionary direction and choreography of Camille A. Brown.”

Casting for the revival has not yet been announced, but producers said they would hold auditions for “talented women of all shapes and sizes” worldwide.

“Dreamgirls” opened on Broadway in 1981 and ran for nearly four years. The original production nabbed 13 Tony nominations, taking home six wins, including Best Leading Actress for Jennifer Holliday and Best Leading Actor for Ben Harney.

In addition to Hudson, the theatrical version of “Dreamgirls” starred Jamie Foxx and Beyoncé and earned eight Oscar nominations, including a Supporting Actor nod for Eddie Murphy.
