UConn can still win a national championship this season, but free furniture is off the table.
After the women’s team lost to South Carolina in the Final Four on Friday, Jordan’s Furniture executives breathed a sigh of relief as their “Make the Final” promotion ended.
Fans who purchased Jordan’s merchandise items — including furniture, mattresses, accessories and more — between Jan. 20 and March 1 were automatically entered into the promotion. Those who entered would have received a rebate of the purchase price paid on their merchandise if the UConn men’s and women’s teams both advanced to the finals of March Madness.
The women had a perfect season going before falling 62-48 to South Carolina. The men, one day later, advanced to the national championship again with a 71-62 win over Illinois.
This wasn’t the first, and likely won’t be the last promotion for the Massachusetts-based company. All customers, not just those living in Connecticut, were eligible for this year’s potential giveaway.
Jordan’s has been doing sports promotions for decades, and it has had to pay out in the past. The company gave away $30 million in furniture after the Boston Red Sox’s 2007 World Series win.
While free furniture would’ve been a major win for fans, UConn has more at stake as the tournament reaches its conclusion. Head coach Dan Hurley and the UConn men have a chance to win their third national championship in four years if they can beat Michigan in the title game.
The UConn-Michigan men’s national championship game is set for Monday, April 6 after the women’s game, South Carolina vs. UCLA, on Sunday, April 5.
