Mayor Justin Elicker will nominate David Zannelli to serve as the next permanent chief of police.

Zanelli served as acting police chief in January after former police chief Karl Jacobson was accused of embezzling more than $85,000 from his department.

In a release, Elicker said the nomination as the permanent police chief is subject to confirmation by the New Haven Board of Alders.

Elicker will announce his nominee at City Hall at 1 p.m.
