Live updates: Lindsay Clancy trial continues after failed motion for mistrial

Editor’s note: Testimony in this trial may be graphic and difficult for some viewers to hear.

What to Know

  • Testimony will continue Tuesday in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial as the prosecution calls rebuttal witnesses. So far we’ve heard from two – Dr. Avram Mack and then forensic psychologist Kirk Heilbrun.
  • Defense attorney Kevin Reddington moved for a mistrial Monday afternoon following a comment about how he’d discussed with Clancy the notion that suicide is a mortal sin, but Judge William Sullivan denied it, while emphatically striking the comment from the record.
  • Prosecutors say Lindsay strangled her children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months — on Jan. 24, 2023, in their Duxbury, Massachusetts, home after sending her then-husband Patrick out for some errands. She then jumped out of the home’s second-story window and was paralyzed from the waist down in the fall. The defense says she was in the grip of bipolar disorder and postpartum psychosis and should not be held criminally responsible.

Testimony will resume in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial after the defense moved for a mistrial over a new comment about mortal sin on Monday.

Two of the prosecution’s three rebuttal witnesses had been on the stand, where they discussed Clancy’s mental state during the killings: psychiatrist Dr. Avram Mack and forensic psychologist Kirk Heilbrun. The jury was sent home early when the judge denied the mistrial motion.
