Bridgeport teen charged as an adult in fatal shooting last month
A Bridgeport teenager accused of shooting and killing an 18-year-old man who was found inside a car last month has been charged as an adult.
Jabez Holley, 17, was arraigned Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court on charges of murder and carrying a pistol without a permit, according to Bridgeport police. His bond was set at $1.5 million.
Holley is accused of shooting and killing 18-year-old Leon Richardson on Catherine Street on July 27.
Dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about gunfire and a man bleeding inside a car on Catherine Street around 6:45 p.m.
Responding officers found Richardson in the driver’s seat of a Honda. Police said he had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said Richardson had just parked the car on Catherine Street, midway between Washington Avenue and Harral Avenue, when he was shot.
Richardson was from Bridgeport’s North End and was a former basketball standout at Bullard-Havens Technical High School, according to police.
Holley turned himself in to homicide detectives at police headquarters Friday night while accompanied by his mother and attorney, police said. There was an active warrant for his arrest at the time.
He was held in juvenile detention and appeared before a juvenile court judge on Monday. Because of the murder charge, the case was transferred to adult court on Tuesday.
Richardson’s death was Bridgeport’s fifth homicide of the year.
