A Bridgeport man has been arrested in connection with a deadly home invasion in Milford that left a 69-year-old man dead and a woman wounded in early June, police said on Friday.

Stuar Lopez-Reyes, 25, of Bridgeport, was arrested in New Haven with assistance from the U.S. Marshals’ Office, according to police.

He is charged with murder, murder in commission of a felony, home invasion, and assault in the first degree of an elderly victim, police said.

The charges stem from a shooting that happened around 2:56 a.m. on June 3 at a home on East Broadway.

Police said two men entered the home while a 69-year-old woman and her companion, 69-year-old Frederick Werner, were sleeping. The woman told investigators she woke up when the intruders entered the home. She was shot once in the head, while Werner was shot multiple times. The suspects fled as the woman called 911, according to police.

Werner was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy determined he died from gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Police have previously said the shooting was a targeted attack, not a random act of violence, and that it was not considered a domestic violence incident.

Detectives from the Milford Police Department said they interviewed neighbors and reviewed private video footage from the area throughout their investigation. The department’s license plate reader database helped police identify the vehicle used in the crime, according to police.

Police say they have executed 27 search warrants in this case. They were able to secure an arrest warrant for Lopez-Reyes on Tuesday and arrest him on Thursday night.

Lopez-Reyes was transported to Milford and arraigned at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Milford Superior Court.

The investigation is still active. Police said they are expecting to make more arrests.
