Folks across multiple towns in the southeastern part of the state are being asked to boil their water after bacteria was detected.

According to the Connecticut Water Company, E. coli was found during the company’s routine testing at one of their, what was described as, sample points in Essex.

Those who live in Haddam, Deep River, Essex, Chester, Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton, Madison, and Guilford are now under a mandatory boil water order. Residents being asked to boil their water for at least sixty seconds and letting it cool before drinking and using it.

This includes brushing your teeth, washing dishes, and making ice.

“We have consulted with the Connecticut Department of Public Health and are doing additional sampling at numerous locations in our delivery system. We expect results from those tests in 24 hours,” the Connecticut Water Company said in a statement.

Water tankers are being established at the Essex and Westbrook Fire Departments, as well as the I-95 commuter lot in Madison for those who are in dire need of water.
