The man accused of killing his wife in Winsted last month faced a judge for the first time in person on Tuesday.
Leon Stetson, 67, appeared in Torrington Superior Court for a brief appearance.
He is accused of killing his wife, Carrie Stetson.
Officers responded their home on Oak Street on June 12 after one of the couple’s adult children called 911 after seeing blood in the home. The officers found dead with a knife near her head, according to the arrest warrant.
Leon was found nearby, barely alive after trying to take his own life, the warrant stated.
Carrie Stetson died of sharp force injuries, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
She owned the Railway Cafe in Winsted and was beloved in town, according to neighbors.
In court on Tuesday, Leon Stetson’s attorney asked for time before a probable cause hearing. The judge set the date for that appearance on Aug. 11.
Stetson is charged with murder, home invasion, and violation of a protective order.
