A 3-year-old child has died after being struck by a vehicle in Manchester early Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to East Center Street around 4:36 a.m. for a report of a pedestrian that had been hit by a vehicle.

Once police arrived, they said they determined a 49-year-old man from Manchester was driving a vehicle westbound on East Center Street when he struck a 3-year-old girl from Manchester.

Emergency crews arrived on scene and immediately initiated life-saving measures.

The child was transported to Connecticut Children’s where she later died, police said. Her identity has not yet been released.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

East Center Street was briefly closed between Goodwin Street and Parker Street. The area has since reopened.

Anyone with information is asked to call Officer Nicholas Sinopoli at (860) 533-8620.
