
Two police officers were shot and a suspect is dead after a pursuit that started in Hartford ended in Newington overnight.
Officers in Hartford were investigating illegal activity on Fales Street around 11 p.m. Friday when a male suspect fled on foot.
A Hartford police officer attempted to take the suspect into custody and during the struggle, authorities said the officer felt what appeared to be a firearm in the suspect’s waistband.
The suspect then reportedly entered a vehicle and fled the area. According to police, officers pursued the vehicle through Hartford and continued south before stopping in Webster Court in Newington near the Rocky Hill town line.
Authorities said the suspect exited the vehicle and there was an exchange of gunfire. As a result, investigators said a Hartford police officer and a Rocky Hill police officer were struck by gunfire. Both officers were transported to the hospital where they are in stable condition.
The suspect was also struck by gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.
A gun was found on scene, police said.
The Inspector General’s Office was called to the scene and is investigating.
