Two people were rescued after spending hours in the water when their boat capsized in Long Island Sound off of West Haven on Thursday.
According to police, a person flagged down an officer and said two of his friends went out on the water around 1 p.m., but he was unable to reach them and they weren’t answering their phones.
The West Haven Fire Department launched two rescue boats, and police deployed a drone to search the area.
A short time later, someone called police to say they heard yelling coming from the water and saw a flare in the same area.
The drone operator was able to locate the two men in the water around 9 p.m. using thermal imaging.
The men told first responders their boat capsized about four hours earlier after being hit by the wake of another boat.
Both men were taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
