A 19-year-old from Brooklyn, New York, is facing 31 counts of voyeurism stemming from several incidents at Wesleyan University, police said.
Middletown officials said the incidents were at the university’s dorms between September and October 2025.
Police said that Samuel Schumann was a student at the time and had been secretly recording women, mostly other students, in the bathrooms on campus. According to investigators, there are 19 victims.
When Wesleyan officials became aware of the issue, they took immediate action, contacted the police, and cooperated with the investigation, according to officials.
Middletown police obtained an arrest warrant for Schumann on Feb. 6, but they said it took two months to track him down. Police ultimately coordinated with Schumann to turn himself in, according to officials.
He was released on a $100,000 bond and is expected in court on Tuesday.
Police said there are still several unknown victims from the incident, and if anyone suspects they were a victim or has any additional information, they should call Middletown police at 860-638-4140.
