A 17-year-old was found to be in possession of a gun in a Derby home on Friday morning, police said.
The gun was found while the Hamden Police Department SWAT team was executing a search warrant — related to a different firearms incident that happened in Hamden — at a multi-family residence on Water Street in Derby, according to police.
The gun in the 17-year-old’s possession was equipped with an extended magazine and a conversion device commonly referred to as a “switch,” which enables a firearm to discharge in a fully automatic manner, police said.
The teen was charged with illegal possession of a machine gun and illegal possession of an extended magazine. He has been remanded to juvenile detention.
