Connecticut State Police released more details on Monday morning about an alleged large-scale cockfighting ring in Tolland that was discovered over the weekend.
Officers made 100 arrests and investigators seized about $90,000 after they executed a search-and-seizure warrant into illegal gambling and cockfighting events being hosted at 55 Mountain Spring Road, according to state police.
The Connecticut Department of Agriculture also found 273 birds at the residence. All of the birds were “euthanized due to their deteriorated conditions,” police said.
The warrant was executed on Saturday at 1:29 p.m. Two of the 100 people arrested were the homeowners, 59-year-old Elvin Miranda and 66-year-old Lisa Miranda, according to police.
The two were charged with cruelty to animals, professional gambling, operating a gambling premise, and risk
of injury to a minor. They posted a $250,000 bond and will appear in Rockville Superior Court on June 18.
The other 98 people arrested have various court dates in May and June.
