The driver of the commercial vehicle that crashed into a utility pole on Avon Mountain Tuesday morning was operating under the influence of drugs and alcohol, according to police.

As the driver traveled East on Albany Avenue, the truck hit the south side guard rail, sending it off the roadway and toward the pole, police said.

The 25-year-old driver sustained minor injuries, but the vehicle, a 2020 Hino box truck, sustained what police described as “disabling damage.”

The driver was arrested and charged with operating under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane, police said.

Police said they found he had a blood alcohol content of .12%. The blood alcohol content limit to drive in Connecticut is .08%, according to the National Institute of Health.

The driver was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Thursday, Feb. 26, according to police.
