A teenager jumped from a multi-family home during a fire in Norwalk on Saturday afternoon and one firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Firefighters responded to a fire at a multi-family home on Ely Avenue around 4:22 p.m.
When crews arrived, they said they found heavy fire showing from the side and back of the home with smoke on all floors.
There were initial reports of possible trapped occupants so additional personnel and resources were brought to the scene, fire officials said.
According to fire officials, before firefighters arrived a 14-year-old female escaped from the building by jumping from the second-floor window. She was transported to the hospital for an evaluation and treatment. Her mother was reportedly helped out of the building by a neighbor using a ladder before emergency crews arrived.
A dog was also rescued from the first floor of the home and a second dog was able to escape with occupants before firefighters arrived.
Fire officials said two firefighters were evaluated for heat-related exhaustion and one firefighter was transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment.
In total, 13 occupants are now displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
