Three people were injured, and drivers are being asked to avoid the area after an SUV collided with a Northwest Connecticut Transit bus, causing it to hit a telephone pole in Torrington on Monday morning, police said.
Police were called to the area of Kennedy Drive and Torringford West Street after a report of a motor vehicle collision, police said.
When they arrived, they learned that a Nissan Rogue had struck the front passenger side of the transit bus. The impact caused the bus to veer into a nearby telephone pole, breaking the pole and leaving wires hanging over the roadway, according to police.
The drivers of both vehicles and one passenger on the bus were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The damaged utility pole has prompted multiple detours in the area. Police are urging drivers to avoid the area while crews work to repair the damage.
- Kennedy Drive eastbound is being detoured onto Knollwood Drive.
- Torringford West Street southbound is being detoured down Kennedy Drive.
- Torringford West Street northbound is being detoured onto Charles Street.
- Dibble Street westbound is being detoured toward Durand Street.
“In short, if you don’t need to be in the area, try to avoid it as there will be traffic congestion until crews can access and clear the damage,” police wrote in a Facebook post.
The crash remains under investigation.
