Man accused of drug dealing in Wallingford arrested after striking officer, police cruisers
A New Haven man who is accused of traveling to Wallingford to distribute crack cocaine and fentanyl was arrested after he attempted to flee and struck two police cruisers and an officer in the process, police said.
Investigators had been monitoring the 30-year-old man, and on Tuesday, officers received information that he was staying at a hotel on Barnes Road and was preparing to conduct a drug transaction, according to police.
Members of the Wallingford Police Department Crime Suppression Unit, Detective Division, and Patrol Division attempted to arrest the man. When he saw officers, he tried to flee in his car, police said.
As the man fled, he struck two police cruisers and an officer, who suffered a minor leg injury, according to police.
The man was eventually taken into custody, and officers recovered about 32 grams of crack cocaine, 10 bags of fentanyl, more than $1,300 in cash, 10 cell phones, and drug-related paraphernalia such as mini-sip bags, razor blades, and a digital scale, police said.
The man was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment, and operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.
He was released on a $51,000 bond and will appear in Meriden Superior Court on June 16.
