Four people were hurt, including two children with serious injuries, in a three-vehicle crash on Route 81 in Haddam on Monday afternoon, according to Connecticut State Police.
State troopers responded to the crash around 3:23 p.m. on Monday near the intersection of Killingworth Road (Route 81) and the Dollar General driveway at 958 Killingworth Road, state police said.
Investigators said a Honda HR-V was leaving the Dollar General exit driveway and attempting to turn left into the southbound lane of Route 81 when it struck the left rear of a Scion TC driving southbound, according to state police.
The impact caused the Scion to spin across the center line and into the northbound lane, where it collided head-on with a Hyundai Azera that was traveling northbound, state police said.
A 9-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy in the Hyundai Azera were seriously injured and brought to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center by LifeStar and Chester Ambulance, according to state police.
The 47-year-old female driver of the Scion and a 24-year-old woman in that car were also transported to the hospital with injuries from the crash, state police said.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Connecticut State Police Troop F at (860) 399-2100.
