Firefighters said they were called to the area of Main Street and Garden Street around 5:19 p.m. for a report of an animal trapped in the sewer system. When they got there, they determined the animal was a kitten.

They entered the sewer system through three access points to locate the kitten. Crews eventually found the kitten in a sewer pipe approximately 50 feet from the street.

A crew at the furthest point encouraged the kitten to move toward two other crews, firefighters said.

Once the kitten made its way between the access points on Main Street and just beyond the sidewalk, firefighters said they were able to safely lift the youngster to safety.

The rescued kitten was then turned over to the Rocky Hill Police Department and later transferred to an animal rescue organization. The kitten is currently being cared for by a veterinarian.

“Great teamwork by all,” the Rocky Hill Fire Department wrote in a Facebook post.
