Fisherman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after drowning in Weston
A fisherman was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after drowning near Devil’s Glen on Sunday.
The Weston Communications Center received reports that a fisherman had entered the river near Devil’s Glen and immediately gone below the surface, police said.
According to police, the victim is a 27-year-old man and he did not resurface.
A search of the area was initiated by Weston Police, Weston Fire Department, and Weston EMS.
According to police, the cold-water rescue personnel from the fire department entered the water and conducted a search but were unable to locate the victim due to river conditions. Then a mutual aid request was made for the Norwalk Police Department Scuba Team.
When the scuba team arrived, they began dive operations and located the victim approximately 20 feet below the surface around 8:26 p.m.
The victim was brought to shore and extricated by the fire department and transferred to the care of Weston EMS, police said.
EMS provided medical treatment and then transported the victim to Norwalk Hospital.
All united cleared the scene around 9:15 p.m., according to police.
The incident remains under investigation by the Weston Police Department.
