The Connecticut Department of Correction says it is investigating the death of a 62-year-old inmate at the Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers.
At 8:13 a.m. on Thursday, a medical emergency code was called for an inmate who was housed in the infirmary and in respiratory distress, the DOC said.
Staff immediately began life-saving measures, paramedics arrived, and the man, Daniel Serrano of Bridgeport, was transported to a local hospital. Serrano was pronounced dead at the hospital at 9:16 a.m.
He entered the DOC on July 3, 2025, and was serving a two-year sentence, according to the DOC.
Connecticut State Police, the Office of the Inspector General, and the DOC are investigating Serrano’s death.
The medical examiner’s office will determine his exact cause of death.
