A man with an active arrest warrant for murder in Ohio was arrested on Tuesday in Meriden after police said he fled from officers investigating a shooting on the Meriden Green near Mill Street.
Members of the Meriden Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit saw a man walking in the area of Pratt Street and Mill Street who matched the description of a suspect involved in the shooting, which happened earlier that day, police said.
They tried to make contact with the man, but he fled on foot, according to police.
He was eventually arrested “after a brief foot pursuit,” police said.
Officers found a 9mm pistol on him, which he did not have a permit for, and narcotics that he discarded while running. They also learned he had an active arrest warrant for murder in Ohio, according to police.
The man was charged with being a fugitive from justice, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of narcotics, interfering with police, and failure to use a crosswalk, police said.
He is being held on a total of $4 million bond and is awaiting extradition.
