Groton police help distressed man at Gold Star Bridge
A man in Groton is getting the mental health assistance he needs thanks to first responders.
On Sunday, the Groton Emergency Communications Center was notified that a man had one leg over the top of the Gold Star Bridge’s security barrier.
Groton officers Bryan Albee and Cristopher Brillon arrived at the scene where a distressed man was found on the bridge security barrier.
Albee and Brillon began a positive dialogue with the man, who then asked if Officer Albee would give him a hug. Albee agreed only under the condition that he came down.
After the man came down, he and Officer Albee hugged and continued talking.
Connecticut State Police arrived on the scene and took control of the incident investigation.
Officer Albee accompanied the man as he was transported to Backus Hospital in Norwich for further evaluation.
