Senate approves bill banning Glock-style pistols in state after debating overnight

Senate approves bill banning Glock-style pistols in state after debating overnight

The Senate has approved a gun control bill introduced around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday and debated by lawmakers overnight.

Lawmakers debated the bill throughout the morning, which was introduced by Gov. Ned Lamont. Although automatic weapons are already illegal in Connecticut, Democrats say the bill aims to close a loophole they say allows people to easily convert handguns into machine guns using a Glock switch.

The bill now heads to Lamont’s desk and would require companies to prevent these alterations. Republicans argue the bill won’t stop the bad actors and will only penalize lawful gun owners and retailers.

It had already passed in the House and was passed in the Senate on the last day of the legislative session, which is set to close at midnight.

Lamont is expected to sign the bill.
