A man faces charges in connection with the kidnapping of a child and statutory rape in North Carolina in connection with an investigation from Middletown.
He was found after the Middletown Police Department requested the help of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office to find the child, who is under 15 years old, officials said. The child had been missing since April 9.
Officers found the child at a location on Ocean Isle Beach where she was being held captive by 51-year-old Justin Newman, officials said.
Newman has been charged with first-degree kidnapping and statutory rape of a child under the age of 15.
Newman remains in custody at the Brunswick County Detention Center.
An investigation is active and ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges being filed as it continues.
