
Police have arrested a Branford man after finding a cache of weapons inside his home.
Branford police were contacted by the Department of Homeland Security on April 21 about a suspicious package that was intercepted at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The package was shipped from China and was labeled as an automotive fuel filter. The package actually contained a firearm suppressor, according to police.
The package was addressed to Alexander Oranzo, 46, of Branford. Oranzo is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms or firearms components, police said.
Police arranged a controlled delivery of the device to Oranzo’s home on North Main Street. After it was accepted, police served a search warrant on the home and found a total of 39 guns inside. They included three assault weapons, 28 long guns, and eight handguns. They also found five suppressors, 58 high-capacity magazines, three sets of body armor, and several thousand rounds of ammunition.
Officers located Alprazolam and Methadone, and eight ounces of marijuana, which is more than legally allowed.
Oranzo was arrested and charged with the following:

3 counts of Criminal Possession of Body Armor
58 counts of Possession of High Capacity Magazines
2 counts of Unsafe Storage of Firearms
5 counts of Criminal Possession of a Silencer
3 counts of Possession of an Assault Weapon
1 count of Possession of a Stolen Firearm
8 counts of Criminal Possession of a Pistol/Revolver
1 count of Possession of a Sawed-Off Shotgun
2 counts of Possession of Narcotics Not in Original Container
1 count of Possession of a Controlled Substance
1 count of Possession of Over Five Ounces of Marijuana
He was held on $200,000 bond.
