New Britain schools says support counselors available following student's death
The Consolidated School District of New Britain announced the death of one of its students, 15-year-old Melvin Osiel Duarte Garcia.
The district said on their Facebook that grief counselors and support staff would be available as needed at Duarte Garcia’s former and current schools, Catalyst Academy and Slade Middle School.
“This loss will be felt deeply across our school community by classmates, staff, and families. We understand that news like this can be incredibly difficult to process, and our immediate priority is ensuring support is available for all those impacted,” the district said.
The school district is also encouraging families to check in with their children and, if they need additional support, to contact the main office.
