The town manager of Winchester announced on Monday that the town has received approval to implement automated speed cameras.

The initiative follows authorization from the Winchester Board of Selectmen and coordination with the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The town’s comprehensive plan aims to improve safety and focuses on high-traffic areas, including Main Street (Route 44) through downtown Winstead and sections of Norfolk Road, according to the town manager’s office.

Town Manager Paul Harrington said there will be clear signage to alert drivers to the cameras. There will also be a warning period before drivers start receiving citations.

Details on when the cameras will be implemented will be announced in the coming weeks, Harrington said.
