New London police say they made an arrest after investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday evening on Wall and Summer Streets.

They say officers received reports of a shooting incident that occurred at a home in the area where they found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound on her lower extremity.

Police say the shooting was not a random act and the victim was taken to a local hospital.

They took the suspect into custody and identified them as 51-year-old Mildred Negron of Norwich.

She has been charged with first-degree assault, criminal use of a firearm and discharge of a firearm, risk of injury to a child, home invasion, illegal discharge of a firearm, interfering with an emergency call and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Negron is being held on a $1,000,000 surety bond.

This is all the information at this time.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing and ask anyone with information to call the New London Police Department Detective Division at 860-447-1481. Anonymous tips may be submitted via the New London Police Tips 411 system by texting NLPDTip plus the information to Tip411 (847411).
