
An Uber driver stabbed a passenger in East Hartford late on Thursday night, the East Hartford Police Department said.
Just before midnight on Thursday, the Uber driver, 44-year-old Herton Udene Joseph, went to the Manchester Police Department to report he had stabbed a passenger in self-defense during an Uber ride that started at Buffalo Wild Wings, according to East Hartford police.
Although investigators initially believed the stabbing happened in Manchester, East Hartford police assumed the investigation when the passenger arrived at Noble Mart on School Street around 1:44 a.m. with serious stab wounds to his upper chest and back, police said.
Investigators later determined that the stabbing happened in the area of Prestige Park and School Street in East Hartford, according to police.
The passenger was sent to Hartford Hospital and is being treated for serious injuries, police said.
Joseph, the Uber driver, remained at the Manchester Police Department, where his vehicle was also seized, according to police.
He was charged with assault in the first degree and tampering with evidence.
Joseph is being held on a $150,000 bond.
