Missing canoer recovered from East Haddam lake 2 days after boat capsized
A missing canoer has been recovered in Lake Hayward two days after the boat capsized, officials said.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced Monday that crews have recovered the body of 20-year-old Dominick Tocci of Woodstock.
Tocci was on the boat along with another man in his 20s when it capsized just before 10 p.m. on Saturday.
Officials said one of the men was taken ashore by a nearby resident who said they heard voices calling for help. He was taken to the hospital for unspecified injuries.
Tocci was a junior at the College of the Holy Cross, majoring in Political Science.
DEEP’s ENCon police, the Connecticut State Police drone and dive teams, along with other local and state entities, aided in the search for Tocci.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death, DEEP officials said.
