A 2,400-gallon oil tanker collided with a car, rolled over, and spilled oil onto a road in West Haven on Thursday, police said.
Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Forest Road between Orange Terrace and Bristol Street at 1:43 p.m. They were told that a car traveling southbound crossed the double yellow line and struck the oil tanker traveling northbound head-on.
The tanker then rolled over and spilled onto the road, police said. The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection responded.
The driver of the car was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The oil tanker driver declined medical treatment after being evaluated on the scene, police said.
Forest Road remains closed between Orange Terrace and Bristol Street, according to police.
It was not immediately clear how much oil spilled from the tanker.
