Avelo Airlines delays delivery of new Embraer aircraft
Avelo Airlines is delaying the delivery of 50 new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft until 2028, airline spokesperson Courtney Goff told NBC Connecticut Wednesday.
The new planes were supposed to start arriving in the first half of 2027.
According to Goff, the delay is to better prepare the airline’s internal systems and procedures. She also attributed the delay to allowing more time to train and certify crewmembers on the new aircraft type.
The airline’s current fleet is made up of Boeing 737s.
Avelo announced the new aircraft in September saying it had placed a firm order for 50 new planes at a price of $4.4 billion with the option to buy 50 additional planes in the future.
In September, the airline said the purchase was meant to modernize its fleet, reduce costs, and fuel growth.
Last month, Avelo said it was ending deportation flights and getting rid of some of its Boeing 737-700 model aircraft to streamline its network.
The airline currently serves 26 nonstop destinations from Tweed New Haven Airport.
