A teenager is in serious condition after a crash on Interstate 84 over the weekend, according to state police.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. Saturday. Officials said two vehicles, a Honda Civic LX and a Toyota Rav4, were driving eastbound in the area of Newtown.
Both vehicles were speeding, state police said, and were in separate lanes. According to investigators, the Toyota’s driver sped up, crossed into the Honda’s lane, and abruptly slammed on their brakes.
That caused the Honda to lose control, cross over the highway, and collide with the Jersey barrier on the right shoulder.
Police said the driver of the Toyota fled the scene but was later found. One of the passengers in the Honda, a 16-year-old from Wallingford, was unresponsive at the scene and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. The driver and another passenger had minor injuries, according to police.
State police said the crash remains under investigation.
