A Naugatuck teacher has been arrested after sharing multiple private messages with a minor.
The Naugatuck police department was contacted by the Naugatuck board of education in early June about concerns involving a 15-year-old minor and a teacher.
Upon investigation, police found that the teacher had frequent one-on-one interactions, including personal text messages over a span of several months with the minor.
The teacher was identified as 54-year-old Michael Harte of Terryville.
The investigation resulted in an arrest warrant for Harte for harmful communication with a minor.
Harte turned himself in to police on Friday. He was released with a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 9.
Harte is no longer employed by the Naugatuck Board of Education.
Naugatuck police encourage parents to have conversations with their children about online communication and having safe boundaries with adults.
