41,000 HUSKY Health members impacted in second security incident this year, DSS says
For the second time this year, the Connecticut Department of Social Services is notifying HUSKY Health members about a security incident involving a Medicaid provider portal.
The latest incident affects approximately 41,000 HUSKY Health members after an unauthorized person accessed certain claims and payment information through a provider’s account. The last incident happened in March, and an unauthorized user gained access to accounts belonging to about 22,500 Hartford HealthCare patients.
DSS said Gainwell Technologies, the state’s fiscal agent and account administrator for Connecticut’s Medicaid program, became aware of the unauthorized access on June 25.
According to DSS, the information accessed varied by person but may have included names, Medicaid claim identification numbers, dates of medical services, information about services received and billing, payment amounts, and information about other health insurance.
Officials said electronic health records, Social Security numbers, and financial account information were not compromised. There is also no evidence that the information has been misused.
DSS said the activity appeared to be financially motivated rather than an attempt to obtain patient information.
DSS and Gainwell began mailing notifications to affected individuals on Friday. Those impacted are being offered free credit and identity monitoring services, along with fraud support services.
