14-year-old and his father arrested after 2 injured in Bridgeport shooting: Police
A 14-year-old boy and his 46-year-old father have been arrested in connection with a double shooting that injured two other teens in Bridgeport on Thursday, police said.
Officers responded to the area of Laurel Avenue and Grove Street around 4 p.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert for several gunshots being fired. Bridgeport’s emergency dispatch center also received several 911 calls reporting that two people had been shot, according to police.
When they arrived, they found an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from Stratford, with gunshot wounds to their lower extremities. They were both taken to the hospital with injuries that are non-life-threatening, police said.
Police said the shooting was not a random act.
Several hours later, members of the Bridgeport Police Detective Bureau’s Shooting Task Force arrested a 14-year-old boy and his 46-year-old father, Damien Mullins, from Bridgeport, at a motel in the city’s North End, according to police.
The 14-year-old is charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, reckless endangerment in the first degree, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
The teen was taken to juvenile detention. His father, Mullins, is charged with tampering with evidence. He was released after posting a $25,000 bond, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, and police said additional arrests and charges are possible.
