Red Sox tie record for team's longest win streak, have a chance to break it later

[ad_1] The Boston Red Sox have tied the franchise record of 15 straight victories by beating the Baltimore Orioles 6-3.

The win streak has pushed the Red Sox back above .500 and into playoff contention.

And they have a chance to break the record later Wednesday in game two of a doubleheader — if the weather cooperates .

The afternoon game came after Tuesday’s was postponed because of rain . Wednesday’s second game is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

How the Red Sox won Game 1 of Wednesday’s doubleheader

The Red Sox jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning off a Caleb Durbin single and Jarren Duran triple. The teams each notched a run in the third off fly balls, then traded solo home runs in the fourth.

The Orioles managed a third run in the sixth but that’s where their comeback fizzled.

Red Sox starting pitcher Jake Bennett managed a 2.58 ERA through 5.2 innings pitched. Closer Aroldis Chapman allowed one hit in the ninth inning, as thunderclouds loomed in the distance over Fenway Park.
