Several people rescued from fire in New Haven apartment building

Several people had to be rescued from windows during an apartment fire in New Haven Friday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to Donna Drive just before 2 p.m. for a reported kitchen fire and found flames on three floors of the apartment building.

There were a number of residents hanging out of windows, according to fire officials. A total of seven people were rescued by ladder.

One resident was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and one firefighter went to the hospital to be treated for minor burns.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
